Enriching Communities
"The development of any nation is in the education of her children"
President Thomas Jefferson
The education of disadvantaged children and orphans is at the core of our work. To-date ACT has supported almost seven hundred 700 children in the six countries where we operate. About 70 per cent of our resources is used to support the education of children in Africa. We believe that each child has within them a talent, and our objective is to help each child we support to achieve their full potential in life through access to good primary and secondary schools in their communities, and where possible to go on to university or other tertiary education. Funding for this work is mainly from child sponsorship from our supporters and from other individual donations.
An increasing number of the supported children are receiving admission to universities on completion of secondary school. There are currently 27 ACT sponsored children in universities in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and Uganda. To-date 127 ACT sponsored children have completed secondary education.
Our work is also contributing to the education of girls, particularly in countries and communities where traditionally girls are disadvantaged and are not given the opportunity of education. 54 percent of children supported by ACT are girls including 56 percent of all ACT sponsored children who have completed secondary school.
