Since 2005 ACT has carried out five pilot training projects to empower widows in Burkina Faso to enable them develop skills to start small enterprises to generate income and be able to feed and educate their children. Our aim to enable this needy widows to sustain themselves and their familes.
In May 2008 ACT formally launched the Widows Project in Burkina Faso at an event attended by the Presdiential Adviser for Economics and Social Welfare. M Vincent Kabre commended ACT for its visionary approach to alleviating poverty by concentrating its efforts on needy widows and training them in business skills. This would enable the women to generate income and be self sustainable. The event coincided with the ACT Training the Trainer Course attended by about 40 women from 11 regions of Burkina Faso. The course aims to equip people who will return to train other women and particularly widows in their communities.
