Uganda Partners

Elim Pentecostal Evangelical Church

Elim Pentecostal Evangelical Church are ACT partners in Uganda. The Church is one of the largest Pentecostal church in Uganda and is divided into seven regions. ACT started supporting needy children and widows in September 2005 after partnership agreement was signed with the leadership of the Busoga region.

Rev David Mwesigwa is the Superintendent for this region and overseer for the 6 districts within the region with responsibility for about a hundred (100) churches based in rural communities and one hundred and thirty two (132) pastors.

The Church is deeply involved with the work among poor and needy, particularly as a vast majority of its membership comes from this group. There are just too many fatherless children and orphans with no one to help. Rev David sees this as a duty of the Church and he himself has three orphans living in his home. He writes, ‘The needs of widows and orphans in this area are great and the church has tried to help, but because of poverty the help is not much. Nearly every Christian church leader is keeping more than 3 orphans besides his own family’.

Jinja is officially the second largest city in Uganda situated 80 km east of the capital Kampala where the Lake Victoria is the source of the River Nile. It was the main industrial city in Uganda, however since the 1980’s nearly all the businesses have relocated to the capital, Kampala. This is having a significant impact on its economy. Jinja is the centre of a large rural area.
