Chingola: Life Gospel Fellowship (LGF)
Life Gospel Fellowship was the first partnership established by ACT in 1998. This fellowship of more than 700 members is led by Bishop Joseph Kazhila. The Care Team of LGF consists of three women and two men who are well known and active members of the Church. They all live and work within the local community in townships around the town of Chingola and where all the children and widows that ACT support also live.
So far ACT has been supporting fifty seven children of widows and orphans through LGF. Chingola is a small town in the northern copper belt of Zambia, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). The downturn in the price of copper on the world market has led to closure of several mines and has had a severe effect on the economy of Chingola. The region has more than 50 per cent adult unemployment.
Ndola:
Life Gospel Fellowship has been overseeing the support for the ten children of widows ACT has been supporting in this community. Ndola was the second largest town in Zambia after the capital Lusaka and is about two hours drive from Chingola. It is situated in the northern copper belt, within only a few miles from the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). Ndola was an industrial town which was dependent on the copper mines. The downturn in the price of copper on the world market has led to closure of several of these industries, which has had a severe effect on the economy of Ndola. The region now has very large adult unemployment.
Mufulira: Bethel Restoration Christian Church (BRCC)
ACT’s partnership with BRCC was established in 2001. The church is led by Rev. Samatanga Kahilu and has about 300 members. The Care team is called Hands of Compassion and have a well established ministry to the poor and needy in the community. BRCC have recently set up a primary school where education is free to all those who cannot afford to pay. ACT supports thirty three children with this partner. Mufulira is located at the border with Congo Democratic Republic in the copperbelt region.
Lusaka: New Beginnings Church
ACT started working in 2001 with this Church led by Pastor Alick Malama. Affiliated to the Church is the Good Samaritan School (GSM) which was set up by Mrs. Selly Malama. The school is located in one of the sprawling shanty towns on the outskirts of Lusaka and is the only school in the community. As most of the parents of children registered in the school are unemployed and therefore unable to pay, the school is gradually being built by parents who offer building skills. Mothers quarry stones and transport them to the school site as a way of paying the school fees.
