The Malawi’s First Lady, travelling with her husband President Mutharika on an official visit to the UK had a meeting with ACT Director, Dr Kunle Onabolu at the Dorchester, London on December 1. Madame Gertrude Mutharika wanted to discuss her project to promote girl child education and raise maternal health awareness and voluntary HIV testing. She had learnt about ACT and was interested in the work that ACT is doing among orphans and widows in a number of African countries, including Malawi.
Speaking during the meeting, the First Lady hailed ACT for its commitments saying education for the girl child is one of the key factors in eliminating poverty, reducing the contraction and effects of preventable diseases and enhancing nation building. She expressed the desire for ACT to partner with her through her project Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM).
“My passion is to see that all children in Malawi are educated. Unfortunately, the most school drop outs have been young girls due to unconducive environments for learning”.
