Happy New Year!
It’s 2020 – can you believe it? Time has flown by and now we enter a new decade.
I have no doubt that many reading this blog would have made their new year resolutions, dreaming up new goals to achieve throughout the year. You’re not alone in this as we at ACT have our own goals and are full of hope and ideas.
For many people in Africa January marks a new beginning – a time of hope and anticipation of a better year. For the children it is the beginning of a new school term. In fact, in some countries it marks the start of a new academic year. As the holidays pass, little children going to school for the first time begin to look forward to what school life has to bring with all its excitement. Older children may be moving to the next school grade or class as they advance through their studies. For those who completed primary school, it is eagerly awaiting results of school leaving exams to discover if they’ve secured a place in their desired secondary school. The children who completed secondary school may be looking forward to going to higher institution or university, with dreams of becoming teachers, doctors, bankers, engineers or whatever else is now within their reach. For some it is the start of working life after having received an education. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbours look on with pride, seeing the children they’ve watched grow take a new step. For many, they would never have believed that this could be happening to their children. Poverty, ill-health and societal barriers working against them could have prevented them ever considering pursuing an education. Their lives were once confined to the boundaries that seemed to predestine their fate. However, one thing urged them on. Hope!
Hope is the key. At ACT this has been the basis of our vision. It remains our vision and it is our vision for this new year.
We want to bring hope to disadvantaged children, fatherless and orphans. We want to bring hope to the widows – mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other such women across Africa who have the responsibility for looking after such children, but cannot carry the burden alone by themselves. A new year represents a new stage for ACT to support such children and widows, providing the pillar they need to achieve their dreams and give them hope.
Yet, this vision is not possible to achieve on our own – we can only do so with your support. You are what drives us and give us the strength to carry on. You give us hope.
So, our ask for this new year 2020 is this, can you help us to spread this hope?
You can help to tell people – friends, family, colleagues and others, about ACT. You can pray for us, take part in one of our events, create your own fundraiser or volunteer. You can Sponsor a child or Donate to our work. To find out how click here.
Without your love and support, we wouldn’t be where we are today, 22 years on. Help us to bring hope to those otherwise forgotten, the orphans and widows in the 8 African nations where we currently operate. Visit our website to find out more www.africanchildtrust.org.uk.
