‘We will survive. We have to… thanks to you’
The UK government’s attempt to keep the economy moving in the coronavirus lockdown with the furlough and grants schemes have helped many businesses and perhaps some of the bigger charities. For smaller charities, government help has been non-existent. We are not included in the grant scheme and although we can apply for the furlough scheme, if you have only 1 or 2 paid staff and depend mainly on volunteers as is the case at ACT, to lay-off the paid staff would bring our organisation to a halt. Yet our work is essential, it is the life spring of some thousands of poor children and widows in Africa.
Barely 3 weeks earlier, our trustee had signed off our fundraising plan for the year. Then suddenly at the end of March came the lockdown. Unplanned, unprepared and for how long? No one knew. Our events for the year had to be cancelled, which means we may miss out on £15-20k of income this year — a huge setback for a small charity. Even now, three months on, we still don’t know what to expect. There are signs that we may be turning the corner, but there are no certainties.
We are going through our most challenging time since ACT was formed nearly 22 years ago. Yet we are full of hope and this, because of you, our supporters. We have been surprised by your support. Your response and generorsity were unexpected. Your kindness and compassion have been most encouraging. Thank you.
“Because of you, We will survive’. For the sake of the children and widows and the communities where we work in Africa, We will survive. We have to”.
Although we are in lockdown our dedicated staff and volunteers are getting on with the work. This month we started our new project in Ngara, Tanzania and have supported 47 new children, thanks to the generosity of donors who responded to our Ngara Appeal. We are committed to supporting 100 needy fatherless children and orphans in 100 families this year. We need your support. Please find out more at our Ngara Appeal.
We are grateful to our regular donors and child sponsors, you are our unseen heroes. Your sponsorship is helping to educate and feed thousands of children in the 8 countries where we work.

In these very challenging times, our need for your support has never been more crucial. ACT supported families are grateful and pray for the health and wellbeing of all ACT donors, expressing how now more than ever they are thinking about your kindness and generosity in these trying times.
Sign up to these schemes and they will make a donation to ACT.
